Forward to a colleague
The activities for the Baltic-KR project in Hamburg are carried out by Hamburg Innovation on behalf of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg Ministry for Science and Research which in turn will provide the necessary links to other parts of Hamburg’s Senate.

The foundation of Hamburg Innovation (HI) constituted the third step in the process to manage the cooperation between the universities and industry in an efficient and uncomplicated way.

The first step took place in 1992 with the foundation of TUHH-Technologie GmbH (TuTech) as the first private technology transfer company to be set up by a German university.

Growing successfully, the second step was the integration of the City of Hamburg’s “Technology Advice Centre”, a public consultancy service for local companies run by the Ministry of Economics. The „new“ TuTech developed into a one-stop-shop for technology transfer in Hamburg, gaining national prominence as a role model for other German universities in its success as an interface between commercial and research interests.

The imminent merger with c:bs (Channel Business Services) to form TuTech Innovation and the foundation of Hamburg Innovation (with the participation of TuTech Innovation) now constitutes the third step.

Of course the concept of the one-stop-shop will remain, but Hamburg Innovation will additionally concentrate on the following activities:

  • project management of research and development contracts from industry including financial and administrative matters

  • exploitation of project and research results through patents and licenses

  • initialisation and maintenance of networks for the universities and the region, in particular international networks
  • support of university spin-outs

  • supporting universities in the preparation of and participation in fairs and congresses

  • representation of the scientific interests of the region in international cooperations.

Apart from TuTech the following unviersities and higher education institutes hold a share in Hamburg Innovation:

  • University of Hamburg

  • University of Applied Sciences (HAW)

  • Hamburg University for Economics and Politics (HWP)

  • University of Arts

  • University of Music and Theatre

  • Technical University Hamburg-Harburg

  • University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf

  • Helmut-Schmidt-University
